Hansel and Gretel
SCENE ONE Mrs. Grimm is looking for her children, Hansel and Gretel. She asks Mr. Grimm to find them. Mr. Grimm finds a boy and a girl from the audience and they are asked to be Hansel and Gretel. Mrs. Grimm is very grumpy. Mr. Grimm asks everyone to sing a song with him. This is our version of “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. After singing the song Mrs. Grimm is still grumpy. She explains to Mr. Grimm that they don’t have any money and no food for the children. She tells him to take Hansel and Gretel to the forest and lose them. Mr. Grimm does this but he gives Hansel and Gretel some paper to drop behind them so that if they get lost in the forest they can find their way home. SCENE TWO The forest is made by getting kids out to be the trees. An Owl comes to tell the next part of the story. Hansel and Gretel walk through the forest dropping bits of paper behind them. After a while they lie down and go to sleep. While Hansel and Gretel are sleeping an ecological rabbit comes. She is cleaning the forest and picks up all the pieces of paper. When Hansel and Gretel wake up and see the paper has gone they are very scared because they are lost and hungry. The rabbit tells them not to worry and takes them to a House of Sweets. SCENE THREE A child is brought out and dressed up to be the “Talking House of Sweets”. The rabbit helps Hansel and Gretel eat the sweets on the house. Then the owner of the house, the Wicked Witch, arrives and catches them eating her house. She asks them to pay her for the sweets and when they tell her they have no money she makes them do some jobs for her in the garden. Then the witch decides to eat them, starting with Hansel. She puts Hansel in a cooking pot. However the rabbit is very clever and has a cook book. She convinces the witch that she can give her a much better recipe for witches “Witches Soup.” Hansel is taken out of the pot and the rabbit reads the instructions for making Witches Soup. The witch has to get in the pot now and the rabbit starts cooking her. When the witch realizes that she has been trapped she asks to be set free. Rabbit does so after explaining to the witch that vegetables are nice to eat as well and that she does not have to cook poor Hansel and Gretel to eat a tasty meal. The witch eats some vegetables and agrees that vegetables are better than children to eat. She tells Hansel and Gretel that vegetables are better to eat than sweets as well.  They all live happily ever after and sing a song to say goodbye.
